I modified my temporary set up based on a list of larvae behavior that I found on this site. Within a couple hours larvae began self-harvesting. Now I have some another questions. If I leave the larvae in the bucket how long will they live? Will they turn into flies or just die if I leave them too l...

I am wondering about how much larvae I can expect to harvest and how fast. I know that there should be a large range of answers to this question so I am just wanting a general idea of what people get. Let's say I have a 5 gallon bucket of food scraps. How many larvae can I expect to get and how quic...

I'm considering setting up a Black Soldier Fly system at a Farmer's Market. To do this I would need something transportable. Maybe even something set up on a tailor. I could collect the waste then put it in the bins at home, but I'm wanting to not have to transport or deal with all that nasty waste....

I love that design. It makes me consider setting up a permanent BSF colony. Questions?
1. what angle would be best for the angled side? 2. do you think that expanded metal would work well for a base? 3. would a solid cover or a mesh cover be better?

Hello all, I was on here last spring with some questions about developing a system for managing hog waste. Nature created it's own management system so I dropped the project. A beetle started converting the hog waste into some amazing soil and so far through the summer that beetle has been doing a g...

Jerry, Thanks for your ideas and input. I'm going to stew over them a bit. In the meantime, something has changed on the farm and I'm reconsidering my plans. Some beetles have begun eating the manure. They are doing an excellent job of decomposing the manure almost completely and leaving behind some...

I have a small organic heritage livestock farm in central Texas (http://www.EdensCove.com). We raise Large Black Hogs and Royal Palm Turkeys. I've got a tub of 1000 grubs and some ideas for what I want to do, I need some guidance and feedback. My primary purposes for raising black soldier flies is: ...
