BSF larvae were observed by the millions after I trashed a few mats of barley green fodder that went a bit moldy that I wouldn't feed my horses. This was in spring (it's now fall/autumn). I didn't know what they were until I started looking into buying mealworms recently and came across BSF on the internet. I immediately recognized the larvae and went to have a look. True as bob, there were still a few larvae and a few flies. I re-enacted the procedure and was able to restart the colony using sprouted grains again. I now feed handfuls of them to my piglets twice a day, but the numbers and flies seem to be dwindling with the colder weather, although I still have some crawl-off.

Thanks for submitting your data. We don't mean any disrespect, but some kind of detailed evidence is needed before adding a sighting to the map. Certainly some people will make identification errors. If we don't maintain some type of standard for sightings the map will lose credibility.

Photographic evidence is best and a photo of an adult fly would be preferred.
