Post These Are Not The Larvae You Are Looking For
Often there will be many species of flies around composts piles or attracted to bait when you're trying to start a BSFL bin. Below are pictures gathered from posts elsewhere on the forums to illustrate some of the species that might be found. A special thanks to PeteB for his contributions.

tarajeanne the adults have short antennae while the larvae have a zig-zag pattern (link)

Some other common visitors are these 'flower flies'. They are small hover flies, about 10 mm long.
The larvae are unusual - the sharp end is actually the tail, while the 'head' is at the bottom of the photo.
