Post Just got some eggs!! and questions ;p
Hi all! have been using the bio-pod for a few months and finally got eggs laid yesterday !! YEAH !

But then this question pops up in my mind, when should I clear out the compost in the pod? It's like 1/3 filled right now but I guess I need to prepare for it? Since I'm living near the tropic, I guess my larva should be able to live whole year round.

And, when I dig down into the compost, the texture is kind of gluey like, or like a paste. my larva are living in there happily (i guess? can't ask them right?) and there isn't any bad smell. However, I'm still worry that the lower layer might become anaerobic?

Drainage always seems to be an issue with any system, including BioPods, unless it's a completely open bottom system. (Even then it sometimes happens). Your compost will almost certainly become anaerobic in the lower regions. It makes cleaning out a BioPod SUCH a joy! (Not!)

I wouldn't worry about a cleanout until your BioPod is completely full. Most of the larvae will be concentrated in the top few inches, so when you do a cleanout, set them aside in a separate bucket, dump and clean the BioPod, then add the separate residue with BSF back to continue your population.
