 My first BSF mate!
I´m proud to show you my greenhouse, where I´ll start to raise BSF in more controlled conditions. Inside this space I can control temperature and air moisture. Just in the coldest night of the year (0ºC or 32 F) I observe the first couple in mate process. I´m happy with it and I´d like to share this moment with all of you BSF lovers! My work is just begginig and know I have to pursuit new mates and a lot of egglay!

 Re: My first BSF mate!
There is discussion about if they drink or not water. As I have a huge amount of adults inside my greenhouse, it is easy to see their behaviour including drink small drops of water. My challenge is take a shoot of this moment!

 another pic....
There are almost 400 BSF in this photo. I have about 1 thousand of them inside my greenhouse.... I do not plant to increase their number since I saw that to much grubs is not desirable to my recycle bin.

It's nice to see that many BSF. What type of bin do you use?

There are 2 biopod plus inside greenhouse. The sucess of the project are a mix of the folowing:
1. feed, 2. temperature, 3. light, 3. pre-pupae and pupae managing, 4. mate conditions, 5. environment of grub´s grown.

Alfredo welcome to our forums. I'm sure that your expertise ( link) will be appreciated by our members. I could sure use some pointers on how to tell the sexes apart

That picture I pointed to be a female, you can observe the ovopositor, flexible, long and thin. The males of course have a penis ending in a "ball" that consist in retractile hooks.

 Re: My first BSF mate!
Very nice They look healthy. Does this mean you're no longer seeing the problems mentioned in your ' BSF larvae development (mortality)' thread ( link)?

 Re: My first BSF mate!
At this moment everything are going well. I'm not having any kind of mortality problem. There are some other issues that I'm working on! This video was done 7 hours after I added 10 pounds of food! Can you see any food on it?

 Re: My first BSF mate!
BW, Thank you for edit my post! feel free to improve my post the way you find better!
BSFan,
My actual issues are: 1. improve the productivity, 2. Learn how to work with compost tea as it is a environmental problem and the most active they are most tea they will produce, 3. development of other systems to develop the colony different than the most usual bug barrack system which is the my actual system.
As I didn't have the right answers to this issues I'm not confident to post my development.
Thank you!

 Re: My first BSF mate!
Agropisa, Maybe you can help me with some insights... at least at a theoretically opinion How many larvae (the most) a Barrack could hold by cm2 to have a maximum production ? Do you think the tea could generate gas if fermented on a closed environment, just like suine feces ? This maybe could reduce the environmental issues on it..
