Post Why I love BSFL
Ever since getting to know BSFL (black soldier fly larvae) I am in love!! :) No organic waste to deal with, composting unit right outside the main entrance to the house, NO SMELL, and best of all my peacocks think they are the best snack in the world. As an holistic veterinarian being able to give my free ranging buddies a healthy 'treat' is great. :D

In addition I have aquired a great colony of local 'under the porch' toads who have become extremely conditioned to people and love to get their BSFL 'treats' as well.

I recommend them highly to my clients with many species of exotic reptiles and amphibians as well as those with several species of birds.

Hope you all enjoy your BSFL as much as I do. :P

Welcome Peacocklady :) I can't understand why everybody doesn't feel the same way. I’m fascinated by the potential of Black Soldier Fly Larvae (BSFL) for organic waste handling. Somewhere I read that they have the potential to be only second to honey bees for insects that have a positive economic impact in our present world. Waste disposal and livestock feed are two of the possibilities.

Last winter I kept a bin in the kitchen. After a meal, we would scrape the plates straight into the bin.
All you could ever smell was coffee and grapefruit.
It all depends on what you feed them. Now I've got them on chicken pellets, and they are a bit smelly.
