Better Pit Latrines using BSFL Challenge
London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine Challenge: Better Pit Latrines using Black Soldier Fly Larvae ( link) Quote: This Challenge seeks a solution that will enable the contained presence of black soldier fly (BSF) larvae in existing pit latrines so they can digest waste and reduce latrine fill rates. Such solutions will greatly enhance the lives of people who live in the most vulnerable communities in developing countries for whom pit latrines are often their only sanitation choice.

http://urbanfeedco.com/ Archimedes is a Winner
"Thank you to the London School of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene for selecting our design as a winner, and to to the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation for funding the competition.
Sanitation Ventures is run by the London School of Tropical Medicine and funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. Late last year, 2011 they launched a competition aimed at improving sanitation for the 2 billion people worldwide who use pit latrines. The goal of the competition was to design a solution to integrate black soldier fly into existing pit latrines. The winners were chosen in the spring of 2012 and our design, Archimedes, was fortunate enough to be one of the 4 winning designs. The solution we submitted was a the result of work by an outstanding, Jamaica-based team consisting of the following individuals: Dr. Robert Logan of the College of Agriculture, Science and Education, Donaldson Bernard of the Jamaican Organic Agriculture Movement, Morris Sommers of the Rural Agricultural Development Authority of Jamaica, and myself, Winston Ford. A big thanks to these people for donating their time and talents." Slide Show ( link)
