Come learn about bioremediation with this amazing insect. If you have chickens (or plan to raise them) this is for you.
Benefits of the Black Soldier Fly larvae include:
- High quality animal protein
- They consume large quantities of organic waste, including poultry manure
- Unlike other flies, they are not associated with transmission of disease, and they do not sting or bite.
- They are gaining tremendous attention as part of sustainable farming.
BSF do not go into houses or eating places. It is genetically programmed to harvest itself. When it reaches maturity, it will climb out of its food source, crawl up a ramp (cleaning itself as it goes) and drop into a container for collection.
BSF trap plans will be available to take home. Dress comfortably as part of the session will be outdoors.
An outgrowth of a grower’s association established in the 1970s, Georgia Organics is a member-supported not-for-profit organization devoted to promoting sustainable foods and local farms in Georgia.
