Post Using mostly UCG?
I added a large bag of Starbuck's used coffee grounds to my bin before leaving for a week. My numerous grubs don't seem to be eating it and congregate around any other foods that I add now that I'm back.

I live on an intentional community/farm where the chickens get whatever we don't eat and the worms get whatever the chickens don't want. I have to be diligent to get good food for the grubs (it's still a fairly new bin and I haven't proven yet that it's a reliable source of food for the chickens).

I had planned on feeding them mostly UCG since that's easy to get and don't compete with any of the other projects. Any thoughts on why they don't seem to be eating it and if giving about 80% UCG will work for BSFL?

Hi Susan. I've never actually tried a pure UCG diet for my small indoor colony so don't have any suggestions from direct experience. One thought is that the bulk UCG might be heating up a bit forcing the larvae to seek cooler spots in the bin. Do you have a thermometer in your bin?

From what I've seen, coffee grounds pass straight through a bin, and they don't get eaten.
