Post Lots of black soldier flies but no larvae
My system is swarming with flies (I live in the Florida Keys) but the system hasn't produced any larvae for a couple of weeks. It's been a little cool (60s). Is this why? Or should I remove the material at the bottom of the bio-composter. Ideas?

Maybe you have a closed system... if I was you (living in a tropical climate) I would simply open everything up and let the adult fly's go to nature and do their thing.

I am in the tropics and my "system" is only an open 44 gallon blue barrel on its side. I also collect vegetable scraps from a local green grocer in black plastic bags... I get 1,000 to 2,000 eggs a day being deposited on the plastic bags due to the odour coming from the decomposing vegies in the bags! God only knows how many eggs are being laid in my blue barrel... but it is swarming with BSF grubs.

I guess my best advice is... KISS... Keep It simple!

Any genius can over-engineer a potato peeler and sell it in K-Mart for $9.79, but in the end the original design from 50 years ago works perfectly, and sells for just 79 cents.
