Post Buggin' in WA
Hello all!

I am rearing a number of invertebrates for a work project....and also cause I like bugs and saving the world. Might as well combine the two, am I right? Anyhow, I have populations of Drosophila melanogaster, Drosophila hydei, Tenebrio molitor, Hermetia illucens and Eisenia fetida, and it's been about two months of learning. Mostly about how to control mites and mold, and how to transfer flies from one container to the other. The BSFL are my real project, however, and since I've never worked with them before I'm sure I'll have many questions to ask you fine folk.

Thanks in advance!
-Sods

Welcome Sods, looking forward to hearing more about your BSFL related efforts. Be sure to use the search feature of the forum to track down previous posts about issues you are having.

There have been wild BSF populations reported in your state but we always welcome more additions to our Black Soldier Fly Mapping Project (link). If you find you do have a wild population of BSF see the 'Range and Identification' section (link) for instructions.

Thanks Boreal,

I have been scoping out the forum for a couple of weeks, it will be nice to compare notes with others. This spring when the mountain thaws out a bit I'll attempt attracting a wild population, I'm rearing at 1860ft but we do get fairly warm temps in the summer.

Hello Sods,

I'm from Washington too, Levenworth is a lovely town. I'm over on the peninsula, it's a good bit warmer over here. I'm planning my system, and I haven't been able to find anyone selling BSFL in the region thats currently in stock. Can I ask who your supplier was?
