Post Greetings from Tampa Bay Area, Florida
Jerry, I started my BSFL Biosphere in a bucket. The first day that I put it outside I used a piece of bread soaked in buttermilk to start out the compost and dumped in kitchen waste. The next day I saw a black soldier fly hanging out on top of the bucket vent/handle and in a week it was loaded with grubs. It hasn't stopped, I haven't seen another soldier fly but I have grubs of all sizes. I use a gallon milk jug for a collector. and it has hand fulls of grubs each day. I have just dump them in the shrubbery, no fish or chickens, yet. Compost waste is gone in hours and that was my objective. Local rains have caused the grubs to get a bit wet and allow them to climb, and I'm sure some have escaped I see finches and other birds hanging around but all is well. I am anxious to see how they take on our mild winters. ;7)
