Post Adelaide Australia, no BSF but lots of House Fly's.
I have my bucket going. Its working really well, I am getting about 50 maggots a day in my collector.
The problem is they are House Fly maggots. Small white things.

My question is, does anyone know if BSF exists in Adelaide, Australia?

Also, is it safe to keep it going with the house fly maggots. I am not getting any flies, they are harvesting themselves before they get a chance to turn into fly's.
By safe, I mean. Are there any health dangers, or anything I should know.
These will only be fed to Chickens and I won't be handling them.

Is it your first bucket? If so probably you´ll have to wait nature´s plan. Here in Brazil, at first the bucket get´s full of house fly and then after around a month it starts to appear the first BSF maggots. Within two months there will be more than 95% of BSF.

Yeah my first one.
Its been going for about a month. It took about 2 weeks to get any sign of maggots, then it just suddenly exploded with the small white ones.

I don't know specifically about Adelaide but they are found in Australia. You might want to check out this aquaponics forum aquaponics.net.au where there are several discussions about raising BSFL as fish food.

If you're successful in attracting BSF we would love to have a photo from your location to add to our BSF locator map (link)

John I thought this might be of interest to you. There's an offer in Australia for "FREE BSFL for beginners" (link).

"We would like more Australians to get into Black Soldier Fly Composting and would like to send you a handful of BSFL to help you get started."
