Post BSFL are great feed!
I got this info from www.mulberryfarms.com I've heard this or pretty much the same thing from various places around the web. The most interesting thing I found about this is the last line. Coccidia is a microbial parasite found in the intestines of bearded dragons, I believe they are found in pretty much all reptiles. Normally not a problem but in stressed or sick animals the coccidia tend to go crazy and can become just as much as a problem as the original ailment. So the fact that feeding BSFL will lower the coccidia count and make your reptiles healthier is just amazing! The only feeder insects I have researched that are considered better are silk worms and hornworms. but of course they require special food and are very sensitive to enviromental conditions.

Ready to serve, with no need to dust or gut load before feeding to your pet.
Naturally nutritious, high in calcium, low in fat.
Approximately 20 - 60 times more calcium than other commonly fed feeder insects.
Ideal 1.5:1 Calcium:Phosphorus ratio.
Contain high amounts of lauric acid which helps battle diseases such as Coccidia.

Dustin, they are not only great reptile feed, but great feed for amphibians, birds, fish and certain mammals such as Sugar Gliders. A "friend of a friend" of mine fed live BSF larvae we had provided him to his difficult to breed cichlid fish (can't remember the specific variety) and witnessed mating and egglaying within two days! Not claiming the BSF stimulated mating and egglaying, but he is sure convinced they did!

They are also one of the best feeds available to reverse metabolic bone disease in creatures susceptible to it.

I've heard that before. It's just amazing how great these little guys are, and how little people know about them. Their reproductive rate seems to be far superior to other feeder insects, plus they are a much higher quality than your common feeders.

Some interesting reading: Black Soldier Fly Larvae (Calciworms) as Food for Reptiles and Amphibians (link). It includes this statement about their antimicrobial properties;

Quote:
Antimicrobial Action

Interestingly, over half of the Black Soldier Fly larvae’s fat content is made up of Lauric Acid, which has strong antimicrobial properties and may help to prevent bacterial and other infections.

That's a great little article. I have witnessed 1st hand the "miracles" these little guys produce. I was given a very skinny bearded dragon on a trade. Even though she would eat like a champ she would never gain any weight, that is until I had this years colony going well enough to start feeding BSFL on a fairly normal basis. Since then she has grown a bit and put on a good amount of weight, filling out a bit and even being receptive to breeding.
