Post Re: EnviroFlight, Yellow Springs Ohio
Has anyone heard of the spent grains kicking off really hot when they start to decompose? I've run into this problem. I'd love to be able to pick the brain of someone using Brewers grains as the primary feed, as that's what I'm doing.

Bugs Save the World | Glen Courtright | TEDxFurmanU
Published on Apr 8, 2016
To solve a food problem and a waste problem, engineer and entrepreneur Glen Courtright turned to Black Soldier flies. His company found a way to process consumer leftovers into food for animals that can then be used as sustainable food sources for an increasingly populous Earth.

Glen Courtright, founder of EnviroFlight, is passionate about solving big problems. He spent much of his career connecting the dots, asking questions, trying innovative ideas in order to create new and better solutions. His career spans telematics, wireless telecommunications, renewable energy, automotive, aerospace, and a few things from his military days that he really can’t talk about.

Strategic Partnership Means Rapid Growth for EnviroFlight
By Cheryl Preyer, on June 7th, 2016

By Jerred Ziegler

“When we first told you about EnviroFlight, the company in Yellow Springs, Ohio, was in the midst of upgrading its entire facilities and preparing for rapid growth. It has now been acquired by biotech leader Intrexon, who entered a joint venture with Darling Ingredients to expand the size and speed of EnviroFlight’s breeding production process. EnviroFlight breeds black soldier flies to create a food source for animals that is more sustainable than the typical crops used like corn and soybeans.”

US insect protein firm sets sights on aquaculture
from undercurrentnews.com (link)

Some excerpts ("he" refers to Glen Courtright):

at present, Enviroflight sells its protein for use in pet food, the ultimate goal is fish feed.

“We want to raise the bugs, to feed the fish, to feed a growing human population,” he said. ...

... Now, he said, the firm has a subsystem which, in one cubic meter of mating space, can produce enough eggs in one day to yield between 100- 150 kilograms of live larvae.

Enviroflight to open in November
https://maysville-online.com/top-storie ... n-november

Excerpts:

Enviroflight President Liz Koutsos gave a presentation on the importance of companies like Enviroflight at Maysville Rotary Club on Tuesday.

...Koutsos said the Maysville Enviroflight location will be the first commercial scale insect production facility in the United States. It will employee 25 people when it first opens. However, it will employ more as the plant expands.

...“The plant will be cleaner than even your typical human food plant,” she said. “They’ll be the cleanest maggots you’ve ever seen. We’ll employee about 20-25 people during the first phase and we’re expected to grow through three phases. We do have an active business plan to grow and with each growth, we’ll increase our employees as well.”
